With beautiful stonework, scottish scenery with rolling hills, manicured gardens, sea views and a rustic feel, GG’s yard is everything you’ve been looking for and more. With barn and DIY weddings becoming more and more popular, this venue ticks all the boxes. If you’re dreaming of a relaxed barn wedding in Scotland, this is definitely a venue worth arranging a viewing for.
INFORMATION ON GGs YARD
GG’s yard is situated in Dumfries & Galloway, and is surrounded by scenic views including mountains and sea. With a variety of ceremony options available such as beach, hilltop and exclusive venue hire, you can have your dream day regardless of the weather.
With a capacity of 200 for the ceremony and meal, and 350 for the evening reception, you can plan quite a large wedding if that’s what you’re after. It’s an all-in-one venue where you get ready, get married and celebrate all in the one place. You don’t need to worry about bridal cars or driving anywhere stressed that you’re running late!
The venue has eight (8) accommodation units on site which is convenient for yourselves and/or your bridal party. There is also accommodation nearby which the venue recommend.
From a photographers perspective, this is a really exciting wedding venue which offers variety, a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful photography opportunities – and amazing ceremony light. I am biased when I say this, but I think to get the most from this venue, book a photographer whos work you absolutely love. It has so much to offer, and it would be a shame to waste it!
*For all GG’s Yard couples, I am offering £100 off wedding photography for a limited time only.
GGs yard has a lot to offer, and you can see by the diagram above to give you an idea for decor, seating and your wedding timeline. With plenty bathrooms and dry areas throughout the venue, you wont be stuck for choice on where to have your drinks reception and canapes, or your group photos if it’s raining.
You’ll see from the diagram too that there’s little nooks that people can hang out in if they wish to get away from the craziness. Sometimes folk just want to relax, get away from the noise and catchup with relatives that they havent seen in ages. GG’s yard have thought about everything!
GG’s yard’s pricing is exceptional for what you’re getting! Take a look at their pricing here. I’d get in there early to bag these prices, as planning my own wedding I know how expensive venues are! I would get married here in a heartbeat, but sadly they’re only open to weddings from Jan 2018 onwards.
With regards to catering, they have a team of in-house caterers who work closely with you to put together your perfect menu. One less thing to think about when it comes to a DIY wedding!
Speak to me about your GGs yard wedding photography, I’d love to be your memory catcher!

Considering another unique scottish wedding venue? Check out Colstoun House
5th January 2017
Wedding Photography advice, venue information and planning tips
Colstoun house & cookery school is a new Scottish wedding venue near Edinburgh. Having only done a few weddings so far, there’s not much in way of photos or information online. Planning a wedding myself, I stumbled across this quaint and beautiful restored coach house thanks to a good friend of mine who scoured instagram for days trying to find something worth considering. Colstoun House is everything we want, and more. I thought that I’d put this page together to help you plan your Colstoun house wedding, as a fellow bride and as a wedding photographer.
A beautiful restored coachhouse with light stone walls and well lit interior. A wedding venue that ticks all boxes, and suits a wedding of medium to large in size. With beautiful surroundings, really taking advantage of Scottish scenery, Colstoun is the perfect venue to host a relaxed blank canvas wedding. I have found the staff at Colstoun to be incredibly helpful with any questions I have. They couldn’t be more helpful if they tried. With recommendations for various supplies, ideas and tips and of course hiring out wedding items at a reduced cost.
In 2017, they’re planning on having the Polytunnel ready to be used as a ceremony option, or a hangout area. This is so incredibly exciting, I cannot wait. Combined with the fantastic firepit, and the fact that they make marshmallows is just mind blowing. You can also have the option of hay bales outside which I think is a pretty cute idea. The photo below was taken at a DIY Farm wedding but you get the idea .
WHAT ABOUT PLACES FOR PHOTOS
Colstoun cookery school has plenty of opportunities for photographs, however most of these opportunities are outdoors. Of Course if you’re using the house for accommodation, this can be an option to use if its raining or for some variety.
Colstoun also has an adorable little bridge with a river running under it. With it being a large estate, there are little animals as well as a beautiful walled garden. The fantastic thing about the polytunnel conversion is that if it rains, this can easily be used, whilst still utilising the natural daylight. With it being a DIY venue, you could think ahead and decorate the polytunnel with bunting although I would double check with the venue to be sure, as it isn’t a structure like the coachhouse.
If you’re getting married in the church nearby, you’ll be able to use those grounds for photographs as an additional option.
With the coach house, there’s the beautiful brickwork which can be incorporated into photographs if you’re wanting a static background for group photographs.
There are plenty of little nooks and pathways to walk along and get creative. It’s the perfect venue for relaxed candid wedding photography too as it will get people to relax and let their hair down. With it being quite outdoors too, it gives better than of flattering light which is always a bonus.
The coach house has nice light for speeches, although if you’re having a winter wedding I would highly recommend having an earlier ceremony of around 1pm so that you have time for photographs before it gets dark, time to have food, and the prospect of some gorgeous last light photography.

St Andrews Square Glasgow Wedding Photography is beautiful. There are so many wonderful opportunities in and around the venue which make for intimate, creative city wedding photography. Getting married in Glasgow City Centre is always great fun. The city is full of alternative and creative wedding venues that you can really put your own stamp on – this venue is one of them. If you’re looking for ideas for other Scottish wedding venues, I’ve done a page specially for this. You can check it out here.
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a good few weddings at St Andrews in the Square now. Each wedding was completely different even though it was the same venue. The large venue is a blank canvas and perfect for customising your dream wedding with stylish decor – or DIY. It makes for a great all-day wedding venue. The lighting is beautiful thanks to the high windows and ceilings, the big open space, and ideal location. It also makes for a great reception-only venue, if you decided to get married at St Andrews Cathedral in Glasgow, or another place of worship.
The surrounding area consists of Glasgow’s City streets, The Barrowlands, Glasgow Green, People’s Palace and other various creative spots. Providing you’re up for a bit of an explore, and allocate enough time between the ceremony and the meal – you and your wedding photographer can really work together to create amazing artistic photographs.
If it rains, it’s still a great venue! It has plenty of shelter outside for those who want some fresh air . If your photographer is willing to stand on the steps in the rain, group photographs outside the beautiful architecture is still possible. Photographs indoors is still a possibility.
For couple’s portraits, I thoroughly recommend a mixture of indoor and outdoor images – always. If it’s been raining, and dries up after the meal – nip out. You won’t regret it! There are lovely spots inside St Andrews on the Square. The stairway, although concrete and grungy, make for artistic moody images. The big clock/balcony is a key image which needs to be timed carefully as the balcony is a favourite hangout spot for guests – right before the meal is an ideal time for this. In terms of a big group photo of everyone, either the stairs outside, or having everyone down below the balcony, once the floor is cleared. Depending on weather, lighting and time this isn’t always possible. For example, if the venue is already set up for the meal (if you’re having ceremony externally) then the only time would be before the dancing. If, however, the ceremony is taking place at the venue – there’s more opportunity for a group photograph inside as tables/floor needs to be cleared twice.

Oh hello! You’ve stumbled across this page looking for information on Cottiers Wedding Photography! Well, I absolutely love that venue – you’ve made such a great choice. Having lived in Hyndland, I love the west end vibe. Cottiers is a gorgeous building, with great tentative staff – and the capacity for a beautiful wedding. It’s a great venue for small intimate do’s, or even the larger guest list. If you’re looking at other venue options, look at the page I put together about getting married in Scotland. <Click Here>
It’s a beautiful church that’s been converted into a very popular bar & restaurant in the West End. It makes for a great hip, alternative wedding venue within the locality of the West End. It’s easy to get to, with accommodation near by and great transport links located in Partick.
Cottiers makes a perfect venue for those who want something unique, with a relaxed vibe for a fun wedding with friends and family. It can be beautifully decorated easily with small touches of flowers, mason jars or other bits and pieces. The furniture suits the venue and weddings so well, without the need of chair covers or ribbon sashes upstairs for the meal. The chairs and tables in the theatre however will require these.
The intimate room upstairs makes a great space for your evening meal. All of yours guests are close by within earshot, without the feeling of empty with low romantic lighting and beautiful golden tones.
For photographs, the stairs outside around the side is quite iconic for the venue. A popular choice for the intimate photos is Kelvingrove park, a wander around the streets of the West End or a short trip to Glasgow University Cloisters. If time is tight but weather’s good, you can get decent photos on site at the venue. However, it’s always recommended if you want creative “Glasgow” photos to go somewhere providing you have enough time between ceremony and meal. If you have any questions about the venue, whether or not I’m your photographer – I’d be happy to help!

The Byre at Inchyra is a beautiful barn wedding venue in Perthshire, Scotland. Consisting of accommodation to get ready in, beautiful scenic backdrops for photos, and a beautiful big barn for the full wedding to take place in. It’s the perfect venue to relax, customise to suit you as a couple with flowers or other decor, and have a care free wedding day. With everything available on site, it’s the perfect venue for a stress free wedding day. An exclusive use venue like this is ideal for non-conformist couples who like to do things their own way. See below for Byre Inchyra Wedding Photography advice and images from my portfolio.
Getting ready at the The Byre at Inchyra is a great idea! I thoroughly recommend it. Unless you have an awesome house close by that you’d like to make use of – getting ready on-site eliminates the stress of transport, running late, getting lost and saves you time as well, as it’s a short walk to the barn. From a photographer’s and make up artists point of view – the room in the big house for bridal prep is gorgeous. The natural light in the room is beautiful, contributing to the style of photos you see in my portfolio.
There are ample opportunities for photographs at The Byre at Inchyra, such as The Walled Garden, and the surrounding area of the Barn. Wet rainy days will be a challenge as there’s very little shelter, especially for a large group photo if you were considering one. There are beautiful trees and flowers to make use of, and there is also a lovely spot of logs next to the barn which makes for good photos. It’s definitely the sort of venue to invest in a good photographer.
