Oh, Kate and Gordon! This super smiley couple held their winter wedding at the incredible Dunglass Estate last December. It was absolutely freezing! Although they are born and bred Scots, Kate and Gordon live in Bermuda so I can only imagine just how cold it felt to them!

Let’s be honest though, regardless of the weather, us Scots (and I’m including myself here as an adopted Scottish lass!) just carry on and have the best time. Which is exactly what Kate, Gordon, and their guests did.

Intimate wedding at Dunglass Estate

Kate and Gordon were keen to have a low key wedding day. They didn’t want fuss or lots of attention on them. They simply wanted to celebrate their love in front of a handful of their family and friends. Dunglass Estate was the perfect venue for this.

Ever since I moved back to Scotland, Dunglass Estate has been on my ‘wedding bucket list’. I’m happy to say it lived up to all expectations! In fact, it exceeded them. The East Lothian Estate is just a short drive from Edinburgh yet you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. It’s tranquil and idyllic with a 15th century Gothic chapel and acres of beautiful grounds. Back in 1787, Robert Burns described the estate as “the most romantic, sweet place I ever saw”, which sums it up pretty perfectly.

Kate and Gordon held their ceremony in the half-ruined church. Such a romantic spot! Flickering candles lined the aisle, adding to the atmosphere. Alan Barr, their Humanist celebrant, was so, so good. One of the best celebrants I’ve ever seen. He led the ceremony with humour and grace. He was so friendly and relaxed which set the tone for the laid-back feel that Kate and Gordon were hoping for.

I also need to shout about the rugs, hot water bottles, and hand warmers that Kate and Gordon provided for their guests. It was a fab touch, they really had thought of everything!

Wedding celebrations at Dunglass Estate, East Lothian

After the ceremony, we made our way out onto the snow-covered pathway outside the chapel. Their guests lined the path, cheered, and threw confetti at a beaming Kate and Gordon. We spent a few minutes taking some portraits outside the chapel, which was dusted with snow. I didn’t keep them too long, as soon as we’d captured some stunning shots it was time to head into the pavilion to enjoy drinks and canapes with their family and friends.

They’d kept their styling simple and fuss-free, in keeping with the rest of their wedding day. Platter & Pop had taken care of the florals, catering, and styling and had done a fab job. I especially loved the rustic table set up, with deep green foliage and tall candles, and woven place settings.

Dunglass Estate was the ideal setting for Kate and Gordon’s intimate, relaxed wedding, and my natural, documentary photography style was the perfect way to capture their day. All their suppliers were so great to work alongside and I can’t wait to see the team again at future weddings.
