I had such a great day at Kinkell Byre with Sophie and Mark. Their winter wedding was beautiful and so romantic and I just love how they did their day their own way, including traditions that they felt were ‘them’ whilst not doing things for the sake of it. They’re a couple after my own heart!
Sophie and Mark have been together for years. They had their wee boy and realised they wanted to get married once he was older and able to play a part in their day. I can’t imagine how special it was for him to have a role in, and witness, his mum and dad’s wedding day. What a wonderful memory to have!
I’ve photographed weddings at Kinkell Byre on a number of occasions and I always have a great time there. The team are great to work alongside and the venue itself is just stunning.
Kinkell Byre is a rustic Scottish farm venue set on the coast in St Andrews. It’s a beautiful part of the world and there are so many amazing opportunities for photographs. In warmer weather, it’s possible to walk straight out onto the dunes from the venue.
Couples get exclusive use of the venue, including the converted barn. It’s a blank canvas which means couples can put their own stamp on the day and really make it their own. The barn is full of character with lights strung from the ceiling, exposed stone walls, wooden floors, and original features.
Sophie and Mark got ready at a super cute AirBnB that’s just down the road from the venue. Mark, their son, and his groomsmen used one set of cottages whilst Sophie, her family, and her bridesmaids got ready in the other. It was the ideal setup and meant that I could spend time with them both that morning too. I love how Mark and their boy had similar outfits, they looked great!
Once the men had set off for Kinkell Byre I stayed with Sophie and captured the moment she put her wedding dress on and her Dad’s face as he saw her for the first time. It was emotional! We took a few photographs at the cottages and then jumped into the classic car that would take them on the short drive to the venue.
The Barn at Kinkell Byre looked amazing. The atmosphere was cosy and warm which was a very welcome respite from the cold for their guests!
Their religious ceremony was heartfelt and emotional and I just love that they got to celebrate their union as a family. It was an emotional moment when they were declared husband and wife, you could really feel the joy and love in the room for them.
We kept outdoor photographs to a minimum, it was a chilly December day after all! However Kinkell Byre prides itself on its amazing lighting designs, they even have an in-house lighting technician who has put together some incredible setups. They’ve perfected the beautiful, atmospheric lighting that perfectly compliments the barn. The ceremony and reception setups always look fab which makes my job super easy!
After some funny and really enjoyable speeches, it was time to hit the dancefloor. I left everyone partying the night away and celebrating an incredible day for Sophie and Mark. What a wedding!
