Relaxed Spring Wedding in East Lothian – Robin and Cyndi

Robin and Cyndi had a gorgeous spring wedding at the wonderful Colstoun in East Lothian. It was a stunning day, with their dog Norman in attendance and a well stocked whiskey bar to keep guests entertained. If that wasn’t enough, they said their vows in one of Scotland’s most unique wedding ceremony locations – a Polytunnel!

Colstoun is definitely one of the most unusual wedding venues in East Lothian! In fact, I might even go as far to say it’s one of Scotland’s most unusual and unique venues.

Colstoun House is Scotland’s oldest family home. From the moment the first brick was laid – over 900 years ago – it has been home to the Brouns. This ancestral seat is a real hidden gem, surrounded by woodland, parkland, lawns and a walled garden. It feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere when, in fact, you’re just half an hour from Edinburgh. Perfect for guests travelling in from afar.

There are so many wedding ceremony spaces at Colstoun, from the cosy drawing room to the Coach House or anywhere within the 100 acres of Victorian parkland. The Walled Garden is beautiful, full of all kinds of seasonal fruit and veg. It’s a popular spot for couples to say their vows, not least because it houses the unique Polytunnel – an unusual and wonderful ‘venue’ that Colstoun is well known for.

When the family first opened their doors to weddings, over a decade ago, they wanted a ceremony space that was outdoors yet protected from the elements. An important consideration in Scotland! That was when they hit upon the Polytunnel. It was an inspired idea. Not only is the light always amazing there – us photographers love soft, natural light – but it has become a real talking point. The Polytunnel is a blank canvas and allows couples to put their own unique stamp on their day.

Robin and Cyndi had decorated the Polytunnel with spring flowers and blossoms, giving a real ‘outdoor / indoor’ feel to the space. Their florist, the lovely Feather Grass Florals, had gone all out on the decor. She has such an eye for detail.

Candice conducted their Humanist ceremony which was so personal and emotional. I adore working with Candice, we’ve worked together a lot at Colstoun weddings and she always makes the ceremonies so much fun and ensures that they are filled with lots of laughter.

Robin and Cyndi exited the tunnel through a confetti aisle, always one of my favourite moments of a wedding day.

Whilst their guests relaxed on the lawn – I even caught some of them sunbathing! Got to make the most of that Scottish sunshine eh! – I captured some really special family photos of Cyndi, Robin, their adorable daughter Cassie and Norman, their super cute pup. Cassie was so excited all day, she loved seeing her parents get married and really enjoyed spending the rest of the day running around the gardens and exploring everywhere with her friends.

Speaking of the weather, it was such a glorious spring day that some of their guests had enjoyed a morning dip in Colstoun’s stream. What a fab way to start the day!

Colstoun is dog friendly so Norman had been able to join them for part of the day. After some cuddles and a few photographs his dog walker took him home so he could relax. This is a great piece of advice actually, I book a lot of couples who want their dogs with them on their wedding day (always a fab idea). However it’s worth having a dog walker or someone in attendance who is solely responsible for them. This means you won’t be worrying about your pooch and your dog will be over the moon to have a dedicated playmate! Plus they can then take the dog away or inside if the weather gets too warm or if things get a bit too much. It always works so well.

Wedding at Colstoun, East Lothian

Cyndi and Robin held their entire wedding day at Colstoun. This venue is so perfect for weddings, it’s cosy, relaxed and feels like a ‘home from home’. I love the evening vibe too, when the dancefloor is full and everyone is having a great time. You can’t beat it!

“I can’t recommend Christine enough! We wanted a photographer for our wedding but neither of us are posey kind of people. Once we stumbled upon Christine’s website, we knew we had found our photographer.

Firstly, her photos are gorgeous. But the thing that really drew us in was the lovely, funny website that has her laid back and bubbly personality shining through. We had her take family photos for us ahead of the wedding and they were amazing! This is no easy feat given they included our toddler and high energy dog! There was nothing too posey but she magically pulled out tons of perfect shots. I think I favourited almost every one.

Now coming to our wedding day, she was completely approachable and provided so much advice and detail about things we didn’t realise we needed to do. On the day itself, she was calm and professional but also really fun to be around! She made sure we were ok and having fun and really that’s what’s most important! We only have our preview photos but as expected they are amazing! I wished we could rate her 10 stars out of 5 because she’s just that good.
