Cardney Steading Wedding Photography – Gillian and Grant

Gillian and Grant are just the sweetest couple. I was recommended to them (huge thank you to John for that!) and I was so excited when they booked me for their Cardney Steading wedding.

Cardney Steadings is a beautiful venue, surrounded by the stunning Perthshire countryside. Gillian and Grant had stumbled upon it completely by chance one day. They’d been driving home to Glasgow after collecting a new car. They pulled in for a moment, looked around and spotted the Steadings. It was off the beaten track, nestled in the woods and was exactly what they’d been looking for their wedding!

Weddings at Cardney Steading

The Cardney Estate was perfect for Gillian and Grant’s day. They both love the countryside, in fact, when they’d contacted me Gillian had written;

“Your nature focus drew us in as well as the relaxed looking faces of your clients. Grant loves dogs and I love autumn so a few common interests there too!”

Both of them are really into music and they wanted their wedding day to feel like a festival. Which was another plus for the Cardney Estate. As everyone travelled to be there it felt like an event, something they were all taking part in together. The wedding party got ready in the onsite cabins and I loved the atmosphere. All the girls were getting ready together, excitement was in the air, they were laughing and singing along to music. It really did feel like they were preparing for a weekend of partying at a festival!

Gillian’s dress was nothing short of stunning. All the girl’s dresses came from Frida and Coco Vintage and they couldn’t compliment the shop enough. They all told me how amazing the experience of choosing their dresses had been and how looked after they’d felt. Also, I have to mention Gillian’s shoes. Wow! She had found the perfect mix of practical and beautiful!

Humanist Wedding Ceremony at Cardney Steading

Grant and Gillian’s ceremony was conducted by their good friend Cat. It was so personal and full of laughter and emotion. A group of Cat’s friends performed a musical number, they are so talented!

I absolutely love humanist wedding ceremonies and, since moving back to Scotland, I have been lucky enough to experience so many of them. One of the (very many!) great things about Scotland is that you can get married anywhere, literally anywhere! On a beach, up a mountain, in a forest…wherever you like. There’s something so special and personal about a ceremony that a couple can really put their heart and soul into, from the location to the words.

I could talk about wedding ceremonies, and Scottish traditions, for days but let’s get back to the lovely Gillian and Grant. The weather was so beautiful and we were lucky enough to get the most stunning golden hour for our portrait session. Just look at that sky! We spent a bit of time exploring the countryside and woods around the venue before heading back inside, it was time to party! As you can imagine, these two music fans had chosen a brilliant wedding band. Pacific kept the dancefloor packed all night long.

I loved being part of Gillian and Grant’s day at Cardney Steadings. If you’re getting married there, or planning your own festival style wedding then I would love to chat to you about your photography.

I adore photographing Scottish weddings. If you’re planning your own Cardney Steading wedding then I’d love to hear from you.
